Dept 17 was dispatched to assist Dept 15 with a fully involved barn fire with exposures. Upon arrival, crews from 17-1 went to work assisting with suppression and stopping the fire from extending to a large horse arena. Crews on scene were operating several large and small diameter hand lines. Due to the construction and layout of the building crews had to make access through rear walls with Steel siding, plywood and rough cut lumber for the stalls. While working on stopping this fast moving fire, a blitz fire was placed between the 2 structures to stop the extension while crews made access to suppress the fire. To further complicate extinguishing, the building had a large fire load of dry hay and straw for animals, as well as feed. Crews on scene had to work to remove an attached breezeway to stop the travel of fire. Due to the size of the exposure, Linesville's Chief and the property owners felt it was safest to clear the smoldering debris. Engine/Tanker 17-1 shuttled water for the length of the incident. Crews remained on scene as heavy equipment was brought in to remove the remnants of the structure. Click on thumbnail for pics.
