Structure Fires in First Due Area

Calls Thumbnail - Structure Fires in First Due Area

November 12, 2009

On Thursday the 12th of November, the crew from 17 House was dispatched for a report of a unattended leaf fire at a residence in which the neighbors were concerned about it spreading. While assembling a crew for 17-1 this was upgraded to a brush fire moving closer to a exposure of a unoccupied summer cottage. 17-1 responded with a full crew. While responding, Crawford Co. OES upgraded it to a Structure Fire and dispatched the first alarm assignment, bringing Andover, Jamestown, Fallowfield, Conneaut Lake Ambulance and Conneaut Lake Park for the RIT. Upon arrival 17 found an unoccupied cottage completely surrounded with fire with the C-side starting to burn and fire showing out the gable end of a three car garage. Chief 17 with 17-1 saw that the garage was heavier involved and had an exposure of a occupied residence, they took the address side for the fire attack. With 17-9 responding with 5 firefighters, Chief 17 ordered the Quint to handle the Cottage Fire/Brush Fire. As the crew from 17-1 made a quick knock down of the garage, 17-9's crew was laid 4” in from the closest intersection and started their attack on the cottage and brush fire. The attack crew from 17-9 advanced a line to the cottage and forced entry into the building. Chief also ordered a vent crew from the Quint to the garage. Asst Chief White and personnel from Dept 89 took care of the vent job.

While working the scene we also received a report of a brush fire across the street from our station by one of the responding units from Dept 5, Chief diverted that engine to check out the situation there and also broke loose two other units from the scene to respond to that fire.

Thanks to all assisting departments for the busy last couple of days in our first due area.
